Traveling Sankirtan

We spent a few days in the New Jersey temple with Srila Bhakti Kanan Giri Maharaj and Lila Sundari Didi. It was an oasis from all the driving and the intoxicated people we met out on the concert tour. We went down to Virginia and did a show for a day then we drove straight through to Hartford, CT the next day. In Hartford we stayed at a campground called ‘Crystal Lake’ which is the same place Jason Vorhees was, in the Friday the 13th movies. Ramachandra called his father and told him what to do with all of Rama’s stuff if something were to happen.

After doing 2 shows in Hartford we booked it to Mansfield, MA. On the way we stopped in Boston. There we had a Harinam party in Boston Commons.

We went by a church that Kamal Krishna Prabhu told us that this was one of the first places Srila Prabhupad spoke. At that program 5 people came and during Srila Prabhupad’s lecture 4 left. After the lecture the devotees apologized to Srila Prabhupad. He said, "Why, you didn’t see all the devas? Bhrama, Shiva, Etc.?"

In Mansfield the other food vendors didn’t go because they knew the cops were strict there. So we went into guerilla mode and sold the most burritos so far.

We went back down to Camden and at this point Divya Shakti Didi had arrived. The day after we got back Srila Giri Maharaj gave a nice morning class, while Ramachandra Prabhu cooked his famous halava.

The next 2 shows were in Camden. Right when we got to the first show someone told us there was a severe weather system coming through. We took a picture of upcoming storm. Actually one of our neighbors was listening to the Philadelphia Philly game on the radio and there the storm was slowing down. So were able to time it to 20 mins. When the downpour hit. I thought it was a full blown monsoon. I have never been in that kind of intense rain before. After 20 mins it let up and we cooked up our burritos.

Contacting Pranananda Prabhu he arranged a program for Srila Giri Maharaj and our group in Queens at Rasaraj Prabhu and Kamala Didi’s house.

It was super sweet.

It was the disappearance day of Rsabdev Prabhu and Srila Giri Maharaj told some nice stories

about how they all traveled around California in the early eighties preaching about Srila Sridhar Maharaj.

I spoke after and invited everyone to come out to Soquel in September

and I thanked them for their sweet association and some of the best Prasadam I’ve ever had.
